WEEK 14

 💭 What happened during lesson?

👉 Introduction

Before the lesson started, Dr. Noel talked to us about all the stuff we have done so far for this module and what are we left with. A module overview was shown as well.

From this picture, it showed us how much we have actually been through and learnt these past 14 weeks and we are very very close to the end of this module.

👉 During lesson (Part 1)

For this week's tutorial, we are leaning about design drawings!

We realized that sketching or drawing is a very important technique we need to have in product design. It also enhances understanding and provide visual clues to refine the product even further.

Using sketches will definitely help one present his or her idea clearly and effectively which opens doors for better communication among members.

We started off by sketching common objects like lines, curves, circles and ellipses.

Next, we moved on to sketch from a one point perspective.

A one point perspective means that the drawing has only 1 vanishing point. All lines parallel with the viewer's line of sight recede to the horizon towards the vanishing point.

We practiced this by sketching a milk carton.

After that, we moved on to sketch from a 2 point perspective.

This time round, the drawing has 2 vanishing points that represent 2 convergence points and infinite distance away. All lines drawn perpendicular or parallel to each other will converge on the vanishing point closer to its side.

We practiced this by sketching a book.

👉 Activity 1

For our first activity, we are required to sketch out our chemical product either in 1 point or 2 point perspective.

We went ahead and sketched out our food preservation light box as shown below.

👉 During lesson (Part 2)

After the sketching activity, we started on design specifications. So what is that?

It is a set of documented requirements to be satisfied and it it a common preliminary part of any engineering design and product development. It should also provide information to the design team to build out new features or functionality of a product.

The primary focus for us right now will be the material & functional / performance specifications.

👉 Activity 2

For our second activity, we crafted a design specifications table just for our chemical product.

The table is shown below.

AND YEP THAT WAS IT FOR OUR WEEK 14 TUTORIAL LESSON!
